The only place around I could find pork belly. Portions were great, the service was very nice.
The ability to post 0 stars should be available as that would have been it for the food. 15 out of 15 people all get food poisoning at the exact same time but the owner laughs at you over the phone for relaying it to them??? Not to mention that it's a 4 bite meal for minimum of $15 a person. I'd much rather get Kroger sushi and take the chance than to ever step foot in that establishment again
Edit since I can't respond to comments:
Visit was 12/2, and the call was made 12/5 after confirmation it was food poisoning for all 15 customers. Since the owner says he never heard about this, that means his ish management hides it from him. That makes the review even lower scored.
Don’t sleep on the pork belly sliders. The pickled greens on it are delicious.
Got several items, hardly anything was seasoned. The egg rolls were full of just cabbage and tasted of cinnamon. The crab rangoon were stale. Theres no way they were made within the last 5 hours. The cashews in my food were softer than the rangoon wrapping. The fried rice and general tsos are honestly what keeps it from being 1 star. Won ton soup was mostly dough, the egg drop soup was thick, more jelly consistent. Very disappointed for paying $60 for food on the same level of flavor as microwave TV dinners. Will never get anything from here again. The delivery driver was nice at least.
EVERY single food establishment I have ever been to, when you order TO-GO there is always plastic silverware included in the bag for orders that REQUIRE utensils to eat with. This was my first time ever going to New Kahala, as we are new to Illinois. Placed an order to go, to eat on a picnic with my family. Picked up the order, was asked if I would like sauce. Never asked if I needed silverware, or made aware that their to-go orders don't include silverware. I make it all the way to my destination to find that I have nothing to eat my food with. Called the store to let them know the situation and that I want to return the untouched food, since it is now cold, and I have to make a 20 minute trek all the way back to the restaurant. The person in charge I spoke to, was quite rude. And added that "most people order to-go to take it home". And that if I wanted silverware I should have gotten it myself from the restaurant while I was there. Had anyone made me aware that for some reason, silverware wasn't in the bag, I would have gladly grabbed some. Nobody said a word. Management is extremely unprofessional. BUT, I left there and went straight next door to Don Taco. Who had GREAT customer service and also included silverware in my to-go bag, without me even needing to ask. Who would've guessed? I will NOT go back to New Kahala.
Best Chinese/Asian food in Carbondale hands down. Servers and cashiers are always polite and sincere. Been coming here for years and I always have a smile on my face after eating their food. The food is always easy on my stomach. I appreciate locally owned places like this and I hope everyone who doesn’t know about them gives them a shot at least once! I definitely appreciate this place.
I'm not a huge Chinese food person to begin with, but I went here with a friend one evening and the food was delicious. We dined in. I had orange chicken, with white rice and crab rangoon. The food was served fresh and steaming hot. …
Generations of college students and the locals all agree, New Kahala has been serving delicious food to the Carbondale community for over 30 years now. Thank you so much to the owners, the staff over the years, and to my fellow customers for keeping this place going and thriving. I always look forward to eating some take-out from here every time I find myself back in the Dale. There are few restaurants like this anywhere in America. It's not just that the food is good, it's the amazing way that this restaurant has become a pillar of the community through hard work and dedication to making people happy and very full. Thank you, NK, I'll never forget you.
